S. Maria degli Angeli

Church of Saint Mary of the Angels and of the Martyrs is a basilica that occupies what was once the central hall of Diocletian's baths complex. It was originally designed by Michelangelo but only the great vaulted ceiling remains from his plans. The entrance into the basilica was to open in the direction of the present day Piazza dei Cinquecento where the National Roman Museum is presently located, but in the 1700's, Luigi Vanvitelli altered the original project. Behind the neighbouring Piazza dei Cinquecento is the modern facade of the main railway station, Stazione Termini, which was finished in 1950

Some aphorisms on photography

"The painter constructs, the photographer discloses"
(Susan Sontag, On Photography)

"You don't make a photograph just with a camera. You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have seen, the books you have read, the music you have heard, the people you have loved"
(Ansel Adams)

"The eye should learn to listen before it looks"
(Robert Frank)

Wonderful secret

A poem dedicated to photography by the American photographer, Walker Evans

"It's as though
there's a wonderful secret
in a certain place
and I can capture it.
Only I can do it
at this moment
and only me"
 (Walker Evans)

Beach, soccer and youth

A little before sunset I was reading on the beach until these boys catched all my attention with their friendly soccer match and so I did some snapshots of them trying to communicate in my photos all the interesting sensation that we can feel here of salt, sand, sea, soccer and youth
